Clinical Placements

Providence Swedish partners with colleges and universities across the Western WA region to provide clinical placements in allied health fields. Additionally, each service area partners with educational institutions to provide programming to meet the unique and evolving needs of their community.
Nurse Tech

Nurse Tech

A nursing technician (nurse tech) is a nursing student preparing to get an RN license that has completed at least one quarter of clinical training. Nurse techs are licensed to work in hospitals, nursing homes, and/or clinics. Providence Swedish offer positions that are flexible and in coordination with the student nurse’s school and curriculum requirements. Cohorts start twice a year (May and December) and application is available at https://providenceswedish.jobs/cohorts.

The Providence Nursing Institute offers comprehensive support for professional development for both recent nursing graduates and those looking to transition into a new specialty. Our New Graduate RN Residency Program provides a foundation for new nurses through classroom learning, simulations, and patient care experiences with mentors. This program is open to those who have graduated from accredited nursing programs with less than 12 months of experience. For experienced nurses seeking to specialize in a new area, the RN Fellowship Program offers career advancement through a structured curriculum, mentorship, and practical learning experiences. Administrative Fellowship

The Administrative Fellowship at Providence offers master's level individuals a 12-month opportunity to develop their management and leadership skills through a broad array of learning experiences. Fellows will receive extensive mentorship from senior leaders as they tackle challenging, highly visible projects in their areas of interest. They will also cultivate a strong microscale and macroscale understanding of Providence's impact on the surrounding community. Apprenticeships, Externships and More

Apprenticeships, Externships and More

Throughout South Puget Sound, student Nursing Assistant positions, as well as a growing number of apprenticeships, are being developed to create earn-to-learn opportunities – paid positions that provide on the job training and preparation for certification and/or licensure. Stipends are available for college students requiring externships in Culinary Arts or Law Enforcement. These programs are 10-12 weeks in length. Students must apply to their college’s work experience program first. To learn more, contact your college’s work experience advisor.

WorkEx Military

Providence St. Peter Hospital works with Thurston County Chamber of Commerce and PacMtn Workforce Development Council to provide personalized internships to service members seeking a less traditional yet customized experience in the last 180 days of their service. The WorkEx program acts as the approving authority and is an approved Career Skills (CSP)/DoD SkillBridge program based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State. More information may be obtained at the Transition Assistant Program at Hawks Career Center or through the individual’s chain of command.

Hiring Our Heroes

In partnership with the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation, internship and fellowship programs are available to place highly skilled and educated transitioning service members, veterans, military spouses, and military caregivers. The commitment usually lasts 5-6 months, depending on program, calendar and availability of applicant and host site. WEX/OJT (Work Experience/On the Job Training)

Providence St. Peter Hospital works with PacMtn WorkSource as a host site to provide work experience that assists individuals in establishing a work history, demonstrating success in the workplace and developing skills that lead to stable employment. Funding and oversight is provided by the PacMtn Workforce Development Council and is subject to availability. Please contact your local PacMtn Workforce Office for further information.
